Hello, Friends and Partners! Well, it is officially February 1st. Looking at the calendar this morning, it hit me: We are in the "home stretch." This is our last “full month” in Virginia, and we are exactly 45 days away from March 18th—the day Patricia, the kids, Heather, and I load up the U-Haul and leave these Virginia hills for the Franklin Mountains and the desert of El Paso. I’ll be honest with you—we are tired, but we are also more expectant than we have ever been. ![]() January was a whirlwind of connections and cold weather. We kicked off the year on January 4th at New Life Baptist Church in Ferrum. I preached from 1 Peter 2:9-10, reminding us that even as we transition into new beginnings and the calendar flips over, our identity remains rooted in what Christ has done for us. I was still fighting off an illness that week, which made the audio a bit rough, so I didn’t upload that one to YouTube—but the message was clear: God rescued us from death to display His glory in our lives. That evening, we were invited to give an hour-long presentation at Quaker Baptist Church, sharing our vision for Borderlands FBC. It was a joy to share our hearts for El Paso, request partnership from that faithful body and to talk about missions. Later in the month, I headed to Roanoke for the SBCV Send Connect at the Hill Church. It was a great time of fellowship with other church planters and sending churches in Southwest Virginia. God is truly moving in our region to send the Gospel to the ends of the earth! Of course, most of you know that the last two weeks here in Virginia have been incredibly "snowy" and icy. We actually had to cancel service at Westlake the on January 25 (and again today) due to the weather, but we didn’t let the ice stop the Word! Since I was scheduled to preach last week, I delivered my prepared sermon to a camera, and we uploaded it to the Westlake YouTube Channel. You can watch that message here: ![]() On January 5th, we launched our #72DaysofPrayer on our Facebook Group. We believe that we cannot move in the flesh; we must move in the Spirit. So far, we have covered so much of El Paso in prayer: from the students at UTEP and EPCC, to the military families at Fort Bliss, and even the hip-hop community, the local bus drivers and library patrons. You can join in this initiative by joining our group here: |
We’ve also been praying for the "nitty-gritty" of the move—like our house hunting from 1,800 miles away! We’ve contracted with a broker in El Paso named Alex, and my brother, Denzsel, has been our "boots on the ground," physically visiting properties to help us decide where we will land. ![]() I also had the pleasure of joining Pastor Justin on the Westlake Podcast once again, and we had a really great conversation about what it means to be angry in a Godly way. Anchored by the Word is available on all major podcast platforms, and you can listen to the audio of our conversation on Youtube here: Throughout January, I’ve continued meeting with pastors about partnership. The excitement is building, but the need is still there. As we prepare for that March 18th move date, would you prayerfully consider joining our team? Whether it is a one-time gift to help with the 1,900-mile haul or a recurring monthly partnership of $20, every bit helps us establish this lighthouse in the Borderlands. For less than a cup of coffee a week, you can have a direct Gospel impact in a city of nearly a million people. Thank you for your prayers, your support, and your love. We are almost there! Until next time, Blessings, Josh Davis Lead Planter, Borderlands FBC Romans 1:16-17 |
